Introduction

Cayce citizens deserve an open and far-reaching community discussion of the Green Diamond, now renamed Vista Farms by the developer, annexation question. Cayce city council and leadership have announced an ambitious new plan to annex 3,000 acres of the failed Green Diamond project into Cayce. This project was soundly rejected by both the City of Columbia and Richland County.

Let’s be smart Cayce!

Our city leadership has touted this as a great opportunity for Cayce, one they’ve been working on behind the scene for many months. So why now the rush to annexation with all these questions outstanding? Has Cayce’s leadership done their due diligence on all these vital questions, like levee costs and liability, and artificial wetlands? We don’t think so. Nor do their public statements indicate otherwise. An issue this important for our community needs to be taken in a measured way, with a lot of community input and an open and transparent public policy process.
